RECOGNITION FOR MUSICIANS

We tend to focus on the artist up front or the dancers around them, but what about the musicians? They are the magic makers of what sparks the light to move us from within and allow us to escape and feel truth from our soul.

They are the ones we should be focussed on because without them, how can we feel what the story should be when we sing, dance or when we just close our eyes and listen.

I love watching a show and seeing how much respect is given to the musicians of our industry and can only hope and wish that even outside of a show, people can respect the hard work and dedication that goes into each and every beat that you hear. There is a always a story to be told and when we can not find the words to express it ourselves, music is there to help us feel what needs to be felt.

As a dancer I was trained to be as versatile as I could be, and I know the hours, days, and years of training that goes into that. I love seeing musicians speak in their own language through melodies and rhythm and how they can jump from one instrument to another and again, just like dancers being versatile, so are they. That’s why we are all called Performing Artists. It’s an art form and a gift that we have to feel to express and transcend that feeling through to our audience.

My father was a drummer, and he still loves to play here and there. Growing up I was surrounded by music so it was no surprise that rhythm is some part of my DNA. I only wish I learnt how to play an instrument. But never say never, you’re never too old to learn something new.

I had the pleasure of talking with a friend of mine Charles LaMont Garner who is an amazing musician and artist. We talk about touring, playing for artists, recognition, bringing out a single of his own and parenthood. Visit my Instagram page @uncensoredandreal to get the insight and hear about all the amazing artists he has worked with.
